Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (O.T.) is a holistic health care profession which looks at an individual as a whole. The three main areas of an individual’s life O.T.s look at is self-care, productivity & leisure. Occupational Therapists work collaboratively with their clients to help them discover the tools to assist them in reaching their goals.
At Intuitive Therapy Solutions, we value a strength based, function focused framework where we are able to get to know our client’s strengths and build upon them to help them achieve their goals. Our therapists are all registered with their respective regulating bodies and are up to date on the current research to support their practices and provide the best care for clients. Beyond this, our therapists bring an extraordinary gift to their practice, one that is not taught in school, this being Intuition. Throughout your experience with our therapists, they will not only provide current evidence based strategies to help you achieve your goals, but they will also use their highly attuned intuition to help you discover your own solutions.
We also offer specialty services in the area of Feeding Therapy through our Intuitive Feeding program to serve families and children 0-18 in throughout Alberta, Canada to support them in reconnecting with their intuition to make mealtimes nourishing and enjoyable! This includes but is not limited to support for "Picky" feeders, developing drinking skills and oral motor skills, addressing sensory aversions, improving a limited food repertoire.
Please check out our Feeding Therapists Stephanie Forseth (O.T.) and Leslie Steeves (R.D.) profiles to take a closer look at these specialty service offerings.
Physiotherapy
"Physiotherapists study the science of movement. They learn how to pinpoint an injury’s root causes. Pediatric PTs help kids improve their range of motion, strength, flexibility, and movement patterns. The goal? Help children move their bodies how and when they want to the best of their abilities. Pediatric PTs help make everyday activities easier for kids." - College PT and Pathways.org, 2021
Feeding Therapy
Feeding Therapy is a specialty area for health professionals (usually who have training in Medicine, Speech Language Pathology, Dietetics, or Occupational Therapy) who have chosen to focus on feeding concerns/issues/disorders in an individual. Pediatric feeding therapists such as the Intuitive Feeding team, work with families and their children to teach them strategies to meet their feeding goals. Stephanie is the Occupational Therapist (O.T.) on Intuitive Feeding's team. She specializes specifically in the occupation of "feeding" to help children engage in their mealtimes in a joyful and fun way! In her feeding therapy practice she looks at the whole person while utilizing principles of sensory regulation, ergonomic positioning, motor, cognitive and emotional development as it relates to a child's function.
About the Intuitive Feeding Program:
In Home Visits, we come to you virtually! - We believe it is imperative to see your child in their natural environment to best support you in your child's feeding journey. In-Person visits may be available to Calgary & surrounding areas - travel fees apply.
Comprehensive Feeding Evaluation – A thorough initial assessment with a Feeding Therapist allows for an in-depth look at your child's feeding challenges, from the perspective of a Registered Dietitian (RD) OR Occupational Therapist (OT).
Mealtime Observation- It is crucial to developing effective strategies that we see how your child functions at mealtimes with the family in their natural environment. This is completed on your child's initial visit.
Individualized Strategies– We recognize all families are unique. Your child is unique. We value providing individual specific strategies to best support you in navigating your child's feeding journey.
Feeding Therapy Support Sessions- Feeding Therapy is a journey. Most families and their child require in-person weekly Feeding Therapy support for a minimum duration of 3-6 months to a 1 year. Every family and child is unique and therefore, our treatment plan recommendations will be provided to you after your child's Feeding Evaluation.
Follow up – We want you and your child to succeed. We recommend post assessment follow up to ensure you feel supported in implementing the strategies with your child. This follow up allows us to coach, support, educate and provide modifications and grading to your child's individualized program.
Support via email or text – Have a question? Need a quick refresher or guidance? We are here for you. We offer support via email or text during the duration of your child's treatment plan to provider ongoing support in between sessions.
Our Intuitive Feeding program outlines three treatment plans (as therapy guidelines) to support families who's children have various levels of feeding concerns. If you are unsure which plan would suit your child best, please reach out. If you do not see a plan that you feel will suit your child's unique needs we would love to hear from you.
